Los nuestros

Los nuestros

The family as an idea to rethink what it means to belong

Dinorah died yesterday at her home in Madrid. Her “family” gathered to observe Abelut: the Jewish mourning period in which the closest relatives separate themselves from the world for seven days. Seven days in which they must live together to process the grief together.

For a few days, everyone abandons their dizzying reality, empty of rituals, to immerse themselves in this collective seclusion. What do these people, united by a past story, now untied, have in common? What they certainly share is the fear of what will come: having or not having children, breaking with our own to move forward, being able to have hope despite the bad prognosis.
